Helping Brockenhurst prepare, respond and recover
Community resilience is about how we prepare for, respond to and recover from events that disrupt everyday life.
In Brockenhurst, those events could include:
- heavy rainfall and surface water flooding
- periods of extreme heat and an increased risk of wildfires, and
- disruption to essential services such as electricity, water, gas or communications.
Being prepared starts with good information, practical planning and strong local connections. Everyone should understand the main risks, know where to find reliable information and recognise how they may be able to help if needed.
Neighbours helping neighbours
One of the greatest strengths of any community is people looking out for one another.
During periods of disruption, residents can help by:
- checking on neighbours, particularly anyone who may need extra support
- sharing accurate and reliable information
- offering practical help where it is safe to do so
- asking for help when it’s needed, and
- following trusted local sources of information.
Strong communities are built on everyday kindness, trust and good neighbourly relationships. During an emergency, those connections can make a real difference.
Staying connected
We’re working with Brockenhurst Parish Council and other local organisations to strengthen communication across the village.
As this work develops, we’ll share advice, updates and opportunities to get involved through community networks, online channels and local WhatsApp groups.
By preparing in advance and supporting one another, we can help make Brockenhurst a safer, stronger and more resilient community.
Household Emergency Plan
Download and complete the plan, discuss it with those you live with, and keep a printed copy somewhere safe and easy to find – particularly during a power cut when you may not have access to the internet.
Keep this plan with your Emergency Kit and make sure everyone in your household knows where it is.
Review it at least once a year and whenever your household circumstances change.
