  • Access to the BCAG network of contacts and specialist skills.

  • Utilization of the multichannel communications network to promote the initiatives.

  • Use of the Village Hall and other facilities

  • Support with funding raising activities including Gift Aid recover subject to the regulators

Protecting Public Access

We are fortunate to live in a very special part of the world. We are committed to safeguarding public access whilst considerate of environmental impact. This includes access from the village into the New Forest, access routes within the village, traversing across the New Forest (by foot or bike)

Martin’s Road Bridge

We need you to help to protect a vital part of Brockenhurst's heritage and ensure safe, inclusive access to the New Forest for generations to come.

The Martin’s Road footbridge, a century-old crossing connecting our village to the Black Know walking area, is at risk of being permanently removed.

This bridge has been used daily for over one hundred years by walkers, families, dog owners, and visitors. It is a cherished part of our community’s connection to nature.

Thanks to Community Action, Forestry England and the Parish Council are working with us to explore a solution. This will require community funds

Outline Plan (agreed With Forestry England)

1. Independent structural survey of the bridge to determine condition

2. If structurally sound, an agreed proposal to modify the bridge to make it safe.

3. Carry out bridge modifications

4. Periodic inspection, with remedial work

Latest Update

We are working with local experts and Forestry England to agree a brief for the Structural Survey to cover:

  • Initial Inspection

  • Comprehensive Inspection

  • Safety Design

  • Final Report

We estimate that £10,000 is needed to fund these works (from a combination of Community funds and Forestry England support).

Once this these works are completed, either we will have an agreed plan to save and maintain the bridge for future generations (this will be subject to further fund-raising) or it will be agreed that the bridge can not be saved (either due to structural integrity reasons or it is not cost-effective to maintain).

PLEASE HELP US RAISE THE INITIAL £10,000*

*Monies will be held by the BVT and release to support the agreed objectives, if there are residual funds, they will be ring-fenced for similar projects to protect public access in the Parish of Brockenhurst.
